coming to you from my bathroom...

okay. due to quite a few questions, emails, and instagram comments on how i curl my hair
i am finally getting around to it!
hopefully this will be of some help :)

---------------

1. this is mostly air dried, partially blow dried- and slightly deceiving because my hair naturally dries more wavy than straight. also, the only product i have in is a leave-in conditioner, and honestly, "2nd day" hair works the best to curl with. always.

2. put half up (especially if you have a lot of hair or thick hair) and begin wrapping! i usually take larger pieces of hair on the bottom and use smaller ones once i get to the top layer. i usually hold about half an inch of the ends away from the curling iron, it will keep the curls looking looser and less structured at the ends. also, i am using a 1 inch curling iron.

3. alright, so they kind of look like shirley temple curls, right? obviously, that's not quite what we're going for, but keep going, we'll fix it when we're done.

4. after the top and bottom are curled- i spray it all down with cortex firm hold hairspray- which holds the curl but allows flexibility (it also smells amaazing!)

5. here's where we mess with those shirley temple curls and turn them into "night out on the town" curls. not many of us can pull off the 7-year-old tap dancer look. or at least i can't.

6. whaa-laa!

i will also usually straighten to slightly curl under the front pieces or "bangs"

the best part about these curls is that they can usually last me 3-4 days!
gross...? no. awesome.
surprisingly, on day 2 they usually look better- funny what curls and bed head can produce!

  2. Awesome! I think I need to try that hairspray. I also blow my hair out before I curl, maybe I should try the natural / half blow dry and see how that works. ;) xoxo

    1. I can definitely do some makeup tutorials! The sweater is Brandy Melville and I found this one in particular at a little boutique called JMR.

  6. Great tutorial, I've never thought to see if curls last that long in my hair, so now I'm gonna have to check it out (I'll take an easier morning any day!).

  9. So pretty. I curl my hair, then try to let it go a day or two like that just so I can pretend to look nice for class. Yours comes out so much more natural than mine though!

    1. If your curls are coming out a little too "structured" and not so "flowy" maybe try holding the hair on the curling iron less time OR comb through and mess with it a lot more after your finished curling. That seems to be what makes mine look a lot more natural and not so "curled" (love that everything is in quotations, ha!)

  11. Beautiful! Kind of hard to tell...are you clamping your hair in the iron, or just wrapping it around? Also, your hair doesn't get oily in between washings? Or if it does, how do you combat that?

    1. I definitely wrap it- clamping it never works for me and somehow I kink it every time! My hair is a little freakish in that I wash it maybe two times a week- sometimes only once! But if it does get oily I am a strong advocate for dry shampoo! I usually use tresemme or suave and love them both! I would recommend the dry shampoo all day long to keep your roots still looking fresh and give you an extra day!

  12. Where can the hairspray you use be purchased?

    1. So, funny enough- I actually find mine at TJ Maxx! However, you kind of have to watch for it because it's not always there- and it's only $7 if you can find it there! I have actually linked the hairspray to another website though that does sell it if for any reason you can't find it at a TJ Maxx! Good luck!
