when ye are in the service of your fellow men...

23.12.12

we had an awesome opportunity tonight to work with an organization called soul food usa
and go to two different homeless shelters to serve food
every other sunday this organization does what they call "soul food sunday". volunteers can sign up online at soulfoodusa.org and they get together, make or put together a large amount of food (usually sandwiches, tonight we did chili) and then head to "the road home" in midvale and then to the shelter downtown to serve up to 400 people! this is an amazing organization and is an amazing cause. i was so impressed with the people who put this together, who take time out of their lives to serve and do something good for others who are less fortunate. most volunteers brought their families and it was so neat seeing all the people that came out to help, including little ones, even if it was just to sing christmas carols :)
it's a good reminder of how truly blessed i am and how grateful i am for opportunities that not only humble me, but bring to light the importance of the season and how easily we can get caught up in the hustle and bustle of this time of year.

they did tell us although they get a lot of help during the holiday season- they can really use help throughout the rest of the year. if you're at all interested, you can sign up at http://soulfoodusa.org/contribute-to-the-cause/volunteer. you'll probably see us there!

definitely the best way i could have spent my sunday evening...

  1. Merry Christmas Robyn! That is awesome that you and your husband were able to do that. My church has a big dinner after our Sunday evening service and I just delivered all the extra food to our nearby rescue mission a few hours ago... It's such a blessing to be able to serve others, especially during a season that can often get so material. I hope you and your fam have an amazing and blessed Christmas! :)
