this has definitely become my go-to braid because it is so easy and you don't even need a hair tie! it may sound silly that not needing a hair tie is my main reason for loving this braid- but i can't tell you how many times i want to put my hair back and can't because of it!
the only pre-requisites for this braid is messy, unruly hair and a pair of hands.
1. start a basic side braid...
key tip: don't lessen the mess as you braid- keep the hair below ratted and messy- do not comb through!
2. about halfway down bring two sections to one side and keep one open as a loop
3. loop all extra hair up and through the open loop (sorry photo doesn't show as well as i'd like it to- it was tricky to capture!)
this is about how it should look at this point
4. pull apart hair to keep it messy looking aaaand....
there you have it!
my sweater is from free people (and on sale!) and the tank is brandy melville :)
I love this! I do side braids all the time, because I'm SUPER lazy when it comes to doing my hair. That I can now do it without even needing a rubber band? Genius. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHaha exactly! I'm the exact same and due to laziness end up braiding my hair more than actually doing it :)
Deletebig fan and over-wearer of the homeless girl braid. what is that shade of lipstick? i need it in my purse.

This shade is Mac's Viva Glam III (matte) - absolutely LOVE this lipstick and apparently it's a limited time line so I should probably stock up with a lifetime supply :)
DeleteLove that! so Cute!
ReplyDeleteOkay that is pretty cute. Love not needing a hairtie--I feel like my braids look like a child's braid when I use a hairtie (even when I loosen it like crazy). Just did it, HA!
ReplyDeleteHaha love it! So glad and I feel the exact same way!!
DeleteI think this braid is adorable, but the name is terrible. Seems a little insensitive to me.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not meant to be insensitive! Although I do agree the name is not very classy, the only reason I originally posted it is because my girlfriend that showed me how she did it called it that. Absolutely not mean to offend anyone.
DeleteGreat idea! Thanks!

I will have to remember this when my hair finally gets long enough for a side braid. Lord knows I never have hair ties on me when I need them! :P
ReplyDeleteLove it, so easy and cute!
ReplyDeleteDo you use photoshop to edit your pictures? They always look SO good.

Love this. Super cute.

This is so cute! I love that there's no hair tie involved - my kitty is hoarding most of mine somewhere. I have to know what your secret is to such long, beautiful hair! Do you use any special product or conditioner?

So you loop the end into a loop in the middle of the braid?

Never would have thought to do that at the end of the braid! Now I want my long hair back to try it out, haha.
ReplyDeletePS. Loving the new blog update with the feather, it's adorable!

This is so funny...I do this all the time!
ReplyDeleteLove this braid! I keep trying to do it at work but no luck. Any tips on what I might be doing wrong? It's the loop part that confuses me. Love your blog! Thanks!
